ESTABLISHED AND EMERGING ARTISTS REFLECT ON THEIR ADOPTED HOMELANDS
CONTEMPORARY ART BEYOND BORDERS
ARTISTIC MIGRATIONS REMAPPING THE ART WORLD
Today we are experiencing an unprecedented wave of migration. People are displaced for various reasons that include war and natural disasters, but there is also a group that migrates voluntarily, namely artists. The idea of moving in pursuit of fresh inspiration is not new in the history of art, but it was never happening on such a large scale as it is now. We ask both established and emerging contemporary artists working across different artistic media about their experience of migrating to another country and how it influenced their body of work. In this book, co-created with the artists, we pose questions about cultural locale, identity and sense of belonging, we also display works that were particularly informed by their relocations.
